Waking Up Is Hard to Do

Neil Sedaka had a song in the 1960’s (yes, some of us DO remember the 60’s) about how breaking up is hard to do. Applying that to what we do at Free Spirit School, we can say that the breaking up process is about breaking the bonds of the past in order to move forward on our path to wholeness. The process of Breaking Up forces us to look at our process of Waking Up and, if we don’t learn the lessons, our patterns will repeat until we do finally understand and become aware of our patterns and beliefs. There is a wonderful song in the musical “Wicked” about living the unexamined life and how easy it is to cruise through the world when we don’t care about the waking up process. However, in the musical, the young man singing the song eventually “sees” his error in wanting to live the carefree, fun and popular life and eventually dares himself to think and feel and love differently and deeply. There was a time in my own life when I just wanted to cruise through, make a lot of money, have all my toys and live in my oatmeal, pablum world. While it was fun for awhile to pretend that I could always live that life, eventually the truth sifted through to my spirit that I was never going to be truly happy unless I found a meaning and truth to who I was. It took a great deal of courage and inner responsibility to break through my fog and enter into the world of the examined life, and I went kicking and screaming all the way into consciousness (or the wee bit of it that I now have). The steps along the way were slippery and high and required a great deal of persistence in order not to fall back into the haze. I began to understand that this becomes a way of life not just a part of it. When we wake up and discover the depths of our inner worlds, we find the warm waters of our souls waiting for us and welcoming us to ourselves. There can be no turning back once we begin this waking up process and gratefully so. As Steve Donoso – a.k.a. Adyashanti – states, “My concern drove me to a deeper place, this place that we’re called to when we speak of spiritual awakening. Now from that place, we can have a very active response to the world rather than a reaction against it. A response is inherently positive; a reaction is inherently negative and divisive. A great thing about coming to our own wholeness is that it’s not as though we just sit on our couch and see that everything is perfect. We do see that everything is perfect – but from that sense of perfection arise great love, great compassion and a great response to the life around us. It’s a response that is undivided. As a whole, as a world culture, if there is going to be a salvation, it’s going to have to come from the human heart being undivided. And to get there, we have to wake up.” Yes, waking up may be hard to do, but it is also the most important thing that we will do.

To Your Health
By Rose Koremenos

With warmer weather on it's way more people will be out exercising and enjoying outdoor activities. For warm weather warriors there is often accompanying body soreness or injury.  It is estimated that over 4 million people each year seek medical care for knee injuries.
Some knee injuries result from wear on the parts of the knee.  Other problems result from injuries such as a blow or fall to the joint or sudden movements that strain the knee beyond it's normal range of motion.
      Tips to prevent knee injury:
  • warm up by walking or riding a stationary bike before participating in sports
  • Stretch the quadriceps in the front of the thigh and the hamstrings at the back of the thigh as this reduces tension on the tendons and relieves pressure on the knee during activities
  • strengthen your leg muscles by slowly training - excellent workouts are walking hills or stair climbing, riding a stationary bike or a specific weight training regime design by a exercise specialist
  • don't start out to fast or doing to much
  • wear proper fitting shoes in good condition to maintain balance and leg alignment
  • drink plenty of water to keep muscles hydrated
  • use a supportive recovery supplement such as Amazon Herbs Recovazon  (reduces the formation of oxidative compounds, promotes recovery from physical exertion and muscle soreness, builds a healthier inflammatory response)

Stone du Jour – Mookite
By Diane Bloom

I have had Mookite, a form of Jasper, in stock for about 3 years and never used it very much until just recently when I got in some hand sized pieces that really impressed me. When I held these pieces I got a great opening in my 2nd chakra which felt very expansive. I got a feeling of power in the area which helped me to feel more grounded. I have also found that, when I am off holding Mookite brings me back into myself. Mookite comes in a variety of shades, mostly reddish orange, beige and yellow making it appropriate to use mostly on the lower three chakras. Whether you or your client need centering, a knowing of inner potential, a feeling of security or a desire for balance, Mookite will assist. Great little find, this Moooooookite!
